The Joy Of Letting Go

I heard a term recently, The Joy of Letting Go. I think this means different things to different people at different times.  In the world of public relations, digital marketing and communications, we are deadline driven; meeting clients’ objectives; brainstorming the next idea to make an impact from a branding and revenue perspective; and always begin proactive and forward thinking. But there are also days that it is a juxtaposition to be swimming like ducks, trying to stay above water as some days things just don’t match our “do to” list.

Two months later to now, we are trying to enjoy and thrive in this new environment. Our lifestyle clients have either closed or are running on a lean scale which means our engines have slowed down as well. It was definitely hard going from a million miles an hour to riding a slow tricycle.

But I am truly lucky and blessed. This definitely sounds cliché, but I am fortunate to have a wonderful family (thank goodness I don’t have to home school!), great friends and amazingly loyal associates. I believe I have found my Joy of Letting Go by taking a breath and being in the moment (a very difficult concept for me). My life still has a few deadlines, and we are thankful for the clients that are keeping us busy, but I also recognize that not everyone is so lucky, and people are truly struggling.

I am one of those people who cannot stop watching the news, and I am constantly amazed and humbled by the stories of our health care workers and first responders. These are the heroes for now and forever!

Finally, I have to admit, I am looking forward to the days of having more deadlines and a longer to do list . . .  actually getting dressed, rushing to the office, being with my team, meetings and conference calls and all!  It’s just the way I roll, but this time around, my “new normal” will include a pause button and maybe continuing to make dinners for my family! My post-COVID Joy of Letting Go!
